"Birth is not only about making babies. Birth is about making mothers ~ strong, competent, capable mothers who trust themselves and know their inner strength." -Barbara Katz Rothman
What is a Professional Doula?
* "A doula is a professional trained in childbirth who provides emotional, physical and informational support to the mother who is expecting, is experiencing labor, or has recently given birth. The doula's purpose is to help women have a safe, memorable and empowering birthing experience."
I am a support to both the expectant mother and her partner and encourage both parents to engage in the birth experience and all of us work together as a whole.
SERVICES PROVIDED:
* I will provide informational and educational materials to the mother and her partner so they can make informed decisions about their birth and what is best for them.
During your pregnancy and birth I provide:
* Emotional support
*Physical support
*Educational support
* A doula is not a healthcare provider and does not provide any medical care
Pregnancy and Post Partum
I provide 2 prenatal visits at your home or public meeting place in which we will discuss your birth plan, interventions, pregnancy education, goals, birth positions, newborn/postpartum care, breastfeeding, and how we can make your birth an empowering experience. I also provide a postpartum visit after you are settled where we can discuss physical and emotional well being and follow up on breastfeeding.
I make myself available to my clients during their entire pregnancy via email and phone for any concerns or emotional support whenever needed although I am not to take the place of the healthcare provider. I am "on call" for your birth starting 2 weeks before your due date.
Labor
During labor I will arrive when asked and stay until an hour or two after the baby is born and offer support.
I am trained in positions and pain relief techniques to help mothers cope during their labor.
I believe every woman has the right to have the birth she chooses and my job is to support her in all of her decisions regarding pain relief and interventions.
